I highly recommend that anyone who resides in and calls Canada home should take this course. Much like the Indigenous Canada course, this highlights key aspects of the history that are not well told within the traditional education curriculum. It meaningfully details the history of Black Canadians and their contribution to this country. The four-module course takes you on a learning journey to better understand the complex history this nation has with communities that now call it home, but also historically and currently experience significant amounts of anti-Black racism. It's a great starting place to begin your journey of better understanding the many perspectives and experiences that make up our current Canada.

Despite having and being living racism, every day because I was black, I believed that in this country it had been somewhat less difficult for our ancestors after the struggles that occurred in the United States, after the Black Panthers and other movements that defended the right to equality... Being in Canada opened my eyes a lot about racism, but after this course I understand a lot the racism that still applies to our race and I understand the struggle that we must continue to carry out from different spaces to achieve our great potential, and the great call is to the union of our entire race... United we have the power to achieve everything we set out to do.

This course is beautifully, holistically, and sensitively put together. After the first Module, I have already found it to be an important experience to participate in. The learning experience is smooth, video work exquisite. The storytelling approach gives a nuanced sense of history that has shaped our lives here and around the world. Thanks for all of this!

Ihad been under the erroneous impression that the Black experience in Canada was considerably better than in the US; that the racial dynamics were far different. There was so much I was ignorant of and I am grateful for the opportunity to have my knowledge gaps filled and be given this jumping off point for further learning, reading, and reflecting.

This is a really fascinating course. I grew up in Canada and knew almost nothing about Black Canadian history. I am happy to have started filling in those gaps; this course has provided some resources to help me keep reading and learning. Material about the experiences of current Black Canadians was also really eye-opening.

This four week course provides the right balance between content and prompts for personal reflection. This was helpful to internalize and localize the information and think further outside of the planned materials. For me, it was a well-prepared and engaging course! I'm thankful this was prepared and offered on Coursera!

A very deep and easy to follow dive into the complexities of the history and legacy of anti-Black racism in Canada filled with examples and great book recommendations. A must for those coming into the exploration of this topic for the first time.

This course could easily be twice as long, I feel there is so much more to learn and I will delve into all of the resources that have been given throughout the course, to continue my learning. This course should be a part of the school curriculum.

This course is comprised with relevant information, delivered in an easy-to-understand manner, tracking from the first Black man in Canada to the present, with the development, acceptance and equality of Blacks inclusion in the Canadian society.
